Background
Shuvam Mitra is a Data Science Engineer at Earth Finance, where he helps own and develop the end-to-end operations of the company's geospatial data, from ingestion and quality control to the integrity of datasets. Working at the intersection of AI, data engineering, and business strategy, he builds the pipelines and tooling that power Earth Finance's spatial finance work, partnering with science, business, and sales teams to turn raw data into assets that drive commercial opportunities.
Prior to Earth Finance, Shuvam led research at Honda Research Institute on sustainable mobility for the 2028 LA Olympics, designing optimized node-to-node transport systems to reduce congestion and emissions across the city during the Games. Before that, at Fidelity Investments, he built the data backbone for predictive operations across one of the largest data center footprints in financial services, developing machine learning models that forecast system failures before they happened and leading the migration of legacy databases to the cloud.
A full-stack data scientist, Shuvam is as comfortable designing models as building the infrastructure they run on. He holds a Masters in Data Science & Analytics from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelors in Computer Science from R.V. College of Engineering in Bangalore, where he trained computer vision systems for autonomous vehicles with the Indian Institute of Science and published IEEE research on machine learning for edge devices. Underneath it all is a simple conviction: the climate transition will be won with evidence, and models are only as good as the data they stand on.
Outside of work, Shuvam can be found hiking and biking around the Pacific Northwest, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, and playing tennis and football on the rare Seattle days when it isn't raining.
